Naturopathic CANCER SUPPORT IN SASKATOON
Experienced, thoughtful naturopathic cancer care
A cancer diagnosis can bring an overwhelming number of decisions, opinions and treatment options.
For over 15 years, I have worked with cancer patients on a daily basis. My job is to help them understand their options, navigate conventional cancer care, and develop a practical plan for supporting their health during treatment and recovery.
My approach is not about taking dozens of supplements or pursuing every possible alternative therapy. It begins with understanding you—your diagnosis, your treatment, your priorities and your values. I focus on education and helping patients feel more confident in the decisions they make. Being well informed can also help reduce some of the uncertainty and fear that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
I have found that patients often want to know they are doing what they reasonably can to support themselves or someone they love. Together, we focus on the things most likely to be useful while avoiding unnecessary treatments, expense and complexity.
How I Can Help
Cancer care can involve many moving parts. Part of my role is helping you understand the bigger picture and decide where to focus your time, energy and resources.
Depending on your situation, our work may include:
Reviewing your diagnosis, pathology, blood work and treatment plan
Helping you understand conventional treatment options and prepare questions for your oncology team
Helping you to manage side effects caused by conventional treatments
Discussing nutrition, exercise, sleep and other practical ways to support your health
Reviewing supplements and natural therapies for potential benefits, risks and interactions with cancer treatment
Helping manage some of the challenges that can arise during treatment and recovery
Discussing complementary therapies when there is reasonable evidence to support their use
Helping you sort through conflicting information about diets, supplements and alternative cancer treatments
Developing a plan that reflects your goals, values, finances and tolerance for treatment
The goal is not to provide an alternative to conventional cancer treatment. It is to help you understand your options, make informed decisions and have a practical plan for supporting yourself throughout the cancer journey.
A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO NATURAL CANCER SUPPORT
There are hundreds of supplements, diets and alternative treatments promoted to people with cancer. Trying to do everything is rarely practical and can become expensive, stressful and overwhelming.
I prefer to start with the fundamentals and then add treatments only when there is a good reason to do so.
This may mean focusing on nutrition, maintaining strength and physical activity, sleep, managing treatment side effects, correcting nutritional deficiencies, and choosing supplements or complementary therapies selectively.
When considering a natural therapy, I look at the available evidence, its safety, possible interactions with conventional treatment, cost, and how much additional burden it places on the patient.
More treatment is not necessarily better treatment. The goal is to develop a manageable plan that makes sense for you and can change as your cancer treatment and circumstances change.
Helping You Navigate Cancer Care
Cancer care can involve difficult decisions, unfamiliar language, and a great deal of information to sort through. I help you understand your options, prepare questions for your oncology appointments, and make choices that reflect your priorities and values.
If you’re considering nutrition changes, supplements, or other supportive therapies, we’ll look carefully at what may be useful, what is uncertain, and what could interfere with your cancer treatment. The goal is a practical plan that supports you through treatment without adding unnecessary products or demands.
You remain in charge of your decisions. I’ll help you communicate clearly with your oncology team about anything you’re taking or considering, so they have the information needed to assess safety. The Canadian Cancer Society specifically recommends discussing supplements and other complementary therapies with the cancer care team because some can interact with treatment.
A Plan Built Around You
There is no single approach that fits everyone facing cancer. Your diagnosis and treatment matter, but so do your goals, your energy, your finances, and how much you want to take on.
We’ll start with what concerns you most. That might be managing symptoms, maintaining strength during treatment, making sense of conflicting advice, or deciding whether a supportive therapy is worth considering. Together, we’ll make a clear, manageable plan and adjust it as your needs change.
You won’t be handed a long list of supplements. I’ll explain the reasoning behind each recommendation so you can decide what feels right for you.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
We’ll talk through your diagnosis, treatment plan, symptoms, and the questions on your mind. You will bring your relevant medical reports, biopsy result, and medical records, a list of medications and supplements, and anything you’ve been told or read that you’d like help making sense of.
From there, I’ll help you identify a few useful next steps. Some may be things you can do now; others may need to wait until we know more about your conventional treatment plan. You’ll leave with a plan that reflects your priorities and feels manageable.
